Haldi invitation

The haldi (also called pithi, ubtan, mayun or gaye holud, depending on the region) is the warmest, messiest morning of the wedding. Family apply turmeric paste to the bride or groom for blessing and glow, the songs are teasing, and nobody's clothes survive. It is usually close family and friends, at home or at the venue lawn.

What to put on a haldi invite

  • Whose haldi it is — bride's, groom's, or a joint one
  • Date and start time (usually morning or early afternoon)
  • Venue — and whether it's indoors or on a lawn
  • Dress code: yellow, or "wear clothes you don't mind ruining"
  • Any games or a dhol, so people come on time
  • Lunch details if guests should stay

Regional names and traditions

In Gujarat it's often called pithi, in Punjab maiyan or vatna, in Bengal gaye holud — where turmeric is sent from the groom's home to the bride's. Many Muslim families hold a manjha or mayun. The essence is the same, but use the name your family uses on the invite; it makes it feel like yours.

Questions

Frequently asked

What should guests wear to a haldi?

Yellow is traditional. Since turmeric stains, light cotton clothes you don't mind ruining are the practical choice — say so on the invite.

When is the haldi held?

Usually the morning of the wedding or the day before. Many families combine haldi and mehendi on the same day.

Should I send a separate haldi invite?

If the haldi guest list is smaller than the wedding list, yes. A separate link keeps it to close family and friends.

Can I combine haldi and mehendi on one invite?

Yes — list both events in one invite with their own times, or see our mehendi invitations.

Can guests RSVP for the haldi only?

Yes, on Pro — RSVPs are per function.
